Hello everyone.
I am a painter living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I love nature and storytelling, both of which are recurring themes in my artwork.
Working primarily in oil and hard pastel I focus a lot on the βcraftβ of painting and drawing, finding joy in learning the techniques and skills I need to visually communicate through art.
My pastel work is focused around a series I call βCreaturesβ. Inspired by medieval European bestiaries (texts describing various real and mythological animals in ways that seem very bizarre to our modern sensibilities) I am creating my own mythology of curious animal mashups. These often humorous creatures explore the dichotomy between predator and prey, ugly and pretty, dangerous and domestic, or are just plain unexpected.
My oil paintings are a meditative exploration of everyday objects. These small still lifes, meticulously developed with numerous layers of paint, quietly revel in the beauty of often overlooked objects. An apple core, an old piece of tupperware, and an empty chrysalis, can each be put on display, their textures, colors, and contours delighted in.
